Botched promotion continues to generate heat for online gambling group
It's been several weeks now since the normally respectable Betfair online casino ran an apparently ill-considered promo which was pounced upon by players with pounds sterling & Euro benefits staring them in the face (see earlier reports).
Making a bad situation worse, instead of taking its lumps, the casino embarked on a series of actions alleged to have included retroactive changes to the T&Cs, closing & auditing player accounts & then arbitrarily confiscating winnings.
Casino managements handling of the situation, & its refusal to further discuss its disqualifications with affected players has provoked a storm of outrage & criticism across the internet as the punters protest at what they see as the unfair removal of legitimate winnings.
Betfair's rather brusque suggestion that players contact the LGA in Malta has not been well received, given that jurisdictions weak reputation for player sensitivity.
A case in point is a Portuguese national who claimed that he had not only lost Euro 32 000, but that Betfair had somehow managed to extract that amount from his personal bank account without his permission. The player claims to have complained to banking & other regulatory authorities, stating that he is determined to have satisfaction & an explanation as to how such a withdrawal could possibly have been sanctioned by his bank.
Betfair appears to have circled the wagons & gone into silent mode on the issue in a publicity sense, & this week its reputation took a further blow when the respected Casinomeister information site consigned the online casino to its Rogue Pit.
