Always double check the dates...

Along with a number of other news providers, we perpetuated a classic internet news screw-up last week in our story "WMS RENEWS TRADE MARK INFRINGEMENT ATTACK ON PARTY GAMING", & we are therefore more than happy to publish a correction & retract the item.

The story originally appeared in various forms in the United States media, prompting our correspondent, in good faith to take up the tale, which involved US litigation between WMS Gaming & Party Gaming over the branding on a game.

Unfortunately & regrettably, it was an old report which had resurfaced on the Internet, probably in error. But because website stories are often undated it was mistakenly picked up & explored by more than a few reporters, including our own.

We are sorry that more care was not taken in establishing the real date of the legal decisions involved, & have introduced tighter oversight to ensure there is no repetition.

Party Gaming has clarified the true position in an email from its Communication Director, advising: "The reports that we are being sued for $287 million by WMS are completely untrue. I wish to confirm that we do not have any legal disputes at all with WMS: we resolved our differences amicably a couple of years ago."
