Illegal internet sportsbetting operators sentenced to prison
The Kansas City Star reports that Michael J. Lombardo (52) & William Cammisano Jr. (64) who were charged last year for their roles in an internet sports-betting operation (see previous reports) have been sentenced to one year & one day in Federal prison.
The sportsbetting operation saw bettors provided with a toll-free number & two website addresses through which wagers were placed using account numbers & passwords in a scheme that allegedly attracted $2.6 million in bets between March 2006 & April 2009. A Costa Rican company managed the phone number & the web server.
U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey who handed down the sentence said, "Given your age & experience, you knew better than to do this. You need to set an example & you didn't."
