Malta rapporteur appointed to compile opinion on EU green paper

Stefano Mallia , a member of the European Economic & Social Committee (EESC) has been appointed as the committeeâEUR™s rapporteur for the compilation & submission of the committeeâEUR™s opinion on the EU Green Paper on Online Gambling reports the Malta Times.

The EESC is an integral part of the EUâEUR™s decision-making process & must be consulted before decisions are taken on economic & social policy. It presents its views & defends its interests in policy discussions with the European Commission, the Council & the European Parliament representing employers, trade unions, consumers & other interest groups.

The EESC has 344 members âEUR‛ the number from each EU country roughly reflecting the size of its population. Malta has five members, the smallest within the Committee. Germany, France, Italy & the United Kingdom each have 24 members, the highest number.

The opinion is due October 2011.
