But a slew of big names register for the third Main Event Day 1 flight

Saturday saw 2,181 poker players, among them many globally famous exponents of the game & entertainment celebrities, pony up for the third Day 1 flight of the main event at the World Series of Poker.

Poker pro Annie Duke gave the 'shuffle up & deal" call, accompanied on stage by comedians Brad Garrett & Ray Romano, both of whom entered the competition.

The numbers were disappointingly 119 short of last year's Day 1c entry of 2,300, but among those taking their seats were last year's Canadian main event champ Jonathan Duhamel (23), Sorel Mizzi, Daniel Negreanu, Humberto Brenes, 2009 champion Joe Cada, 2003 champion Chris Moneymaker, 1989 champ Phil Hellmuth Jr. & MGM Resorts International executive Bobby Baldwin, a 1978 main event champion nicknamed "The Owl." Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce also played, as did Australian cricketing legend Shane Warne, former Olympic boxer Audley Harrison, & Hungarian model Krisztina Polgar.

Other recognisable poker pros starting the day included Scotty Nguyen, Jamie Gold, Dan Harrington, Tom McEvoy & Bobby Baldwin.

The Saturday entries brought the tournament's three-day total to 4,056, after officials revised totals to reflect seven fewer entries on the tournament's second starting day. The three day total was down 17.7 percent compared with the total entries during the first three starting days of the tournament last year.

Around midnight Saturday Vegas time at level 5 the officials called for the chips to be bagged with 1,360 survivors approved for a second day of action.

Kevin Song was chip leader on 163,325, which means that Fred Berger from flight 1a is still the chip leader going into Day 2 on 209,500 (Ben Lamb had the most chips on Day 1b on 188,925).

The final flight for the first day, Day 1d, is already shaping up well, with plenty of registrations, officials revealed.

Notable eliminations in Day 1c included David Singer, Ray Romano, Chris Moneymaker, Allen Bari, Jason Somerville, & Fabrice Soulier.

More fortunate notable names that survived the day included Bobby Baldwin, Scotty Nguyen, Dan Harrington, Joe Cada, Jonathan Duhamel, Phil Hellmuth, internet high stakes ace Daniel "jungleman12" Cates, Adam Junglen, Ted Forrest, Humberto Brenes, Justin Cohen, Sorel Mizzi, Tom McEvoy, Svetlana Gromenkova, Matt Hawrilenko, Amanda Baker, Barny Boatman, Mike Sowers, Jeff Sarwer, JP Kelly, Daniel Negreanu, Antonin Teisseire, Arnaud Mattern & Lauren Kling.
